The Dinosaur Caves Preservation Society

Dinosaur Caves Park Preservation Society is a 501(c)3, Non-Profit California Corporation, dedicated to raising funds for the development of the Dinosaur Caves Park in the city of Pismo Beach.

The Society’s roots were formed when a 22 member citizens commission was appointed by the Pismo Beach City Council's Dinosaur Caves Sub-Committee in 1996. The commission represented a cross section of the community and its opinions, and was charged with making recommendations to the City Council after researching all possible uses of the property. Every practical public, private, and mixed use was considered. After working diligently as a commission for almost two years, holding two Town Hall Meetings, and collaborating with Cal-Poly’s Landscape Architecture Department, the commission recommended this “jewel of a property” should be officially designated as “Open Rural Space.” A preliminary site plan with recreational and educational facilities was adopted by the City Council and the commission was disbanded.

The enthusiastic Task Force members then formed the Dinosaur Caves Preservation Society (DCPS) to encourage the public and private sector interaction needed to develop a world class municipal park. Society members have organized hundreds of companies and individuals to bring the Park to its present state.

Strong community support exists for the development of this park. DCPS continues to act as conduit for such support and to partner with the City of Pismo Beach so this priceless property is preserved and enhanced for the enjoyment of all.

Residents of San Luis Obispo county and visitors to Pismo Beach all benefit from the development of this park. San Luis county is home to 200,000+ people, and another 2,000,000 visit this area each year. Every day more than 67,000 motorists traverse Highway 101 past Dinosaur Caves Park and are invited to stop and take a break, and enjoy some of the food, shopping, and recreational benefits the area offers.

The Park at Dinosaur Caves officially opened in June of 2003, when the first phase of the master plan was completed. DCPS thanks all who have donated so generously so far. We've come a long way, but we are not finished. Major projects, including flowerscaping, irrigation, trails, and special purpose areas need to be completed. We ask all who appreciate the magic of an ocean-front Park to make this dream a reality. If you click on the Donations Dinosaur on the Home Page of this site, you'll see the many ways you can help.

The Officers of the Society are Dr. Marc Lebed, Brian Kreowski esq., and Ted Ehring. Board of Trustees include John King, John Madonna and Brad Wilde. Marilee Hyman is the liaison between the DCPS and the City of Pismo Beach.

Dinosaur Caves Preservation Society is a California Public Benefit, Non-profit Corporation, organized and established in accordance with Title 26, Section 501(c)3 of the United States Internal Revenue Code.
